Outcomes: Sustainable Conservation Trust Internship

Through my internship with Sustainable Conservation Trust, I gained practical experience working within a sustainability-led architectural organisation, contributing to live project work while developing a clearer understanding of how design is delivered in a professional context.

A key outcome of this experience was learning how an NGO-based architectural practice operates differently from a traditional studio. With a strong focus on community impact, sustainability, and conservation, the working approach prioritised collaboration and social value within design decisions.

My involvement in the skatepark redevelopment project was a major part of this experience. Taking part in meetings, visiting the site, and engaging with design development discussions allowed me to understand how projects evolve in response to context, use, and community input. The project is currently at a review stage, with drawings being assessed before progressing into the next phase of redesign.

A tangible output from this process was contributing to a collaborative site render, helping to visually communicate the proposed redevelopment. Alongside this, I produced an elevation drawing which supported the technical development and representation of the scheme.

Transferable professional skills including communication within a team setting, responding to iterative feedback, and adapting to an active design process. Working with architects and the wider team provided insight into professional expectations and collaborative workflows.

Overall, this internship added to my understanding of how architecture can function within an NGO framework, while strengthening both my technical abilities and my contribution to live design work. I also now have updated my LinkedIn to reflect my experience which will help with future job applications.
